MySpace: A Love/Hate Relationship

As you may recall, I previously posted about MySpace and if I should re-create my profile. When I first started MySpace, I really didn't understand the fascination. All of my friends were on there but I thought it was just silly.

When I started at my job, one of my co-workers was on it constantly chatting with friends and searching profiles. I honestly didn't understand how she could be on there ALL DAY LONG!

So, I signed up to see what all the jazz was about. I lasted about 2 months before I took my profile down. I put it back up last week and made some rules for myself and will not take it so seriously.

One of the main reasons I deleted my profile was an issue I was having with a good friend of mine. (And since my blog is blocked where he is, he can't read this so I am going to write it.) (Some of you may know who it is based on that description.)

This friend of mine is a MySpace whore (he'll tell you he isn't, but he really is) and uses it as a way to keep in touch with friends--old and new.

As some of you may know, there is a "Top 8" feature on MySpace that allows you change who your Top 8 friends are. Well, my friend has a long history of ranking his friends (again, he'll tell you doesn't, but he really does). When I added my profile, I noticed that I never made his Top 8, even though I talk to him everyday. He had one person on there who we've only known for 6 months but me, who's been his friend for over 2 years, didn't make the cut.

Needless to say, I was very hurt by this. I felt that if I didn't want to continue to be hurt, the best thing for me would be to just delete my account. I figured that if I didn't know what was going on, I'd be ok.

Now, I know you all may think this is petty and silly but I really don't care.

So, I've sucked it up and got back on the bandwagon. MySpace really is lame, but in a fun way, I've found, if you just don't take it seriously.
