Subtleties

It's always interesting what we learn when we really pay attention to the small things.

Last Friday, after a fundraising dinner, Jesse, Scott and I wanted to go out. Our friend Arlyn invited us to a new place, Mynt. I wasn't really interested in going. Sitting in bars talking and drinking really isn't my thing. I like to go to clubs and dance and drink or to a place and eat and drink and talk. Jesse only wanted to go because Arlyn said he'd buy him a drink.

When we got there, I stopped outside and said, "I don't want to go. I've changed my mind." I was pushed in the door with the promise that we wouldn't be staying long. However, when we all got in, we all changed our minds and turned around and walked out.

Jesse was visibly annoyed. (He'll tell you that he wasn't but he'd be lying.) I couldn't figure out why until he went back inside. He went to convince his friend Leah that she should come with us dancing. When he came back outside, she was not with him and he was even more annoyed. At first, I thought it was just because of the indecision of the group (me, Scott, Adam and David) then I realized what it really was: He wanted Leah to come and since she didn't, he was disappointed. Realizing this, I became annoyed. He obviously wanted to hang out with her more than us and he sulks when he doesn't get his way. Muy molesto.

fortunately, he cheered up and we went clubbing and had a great time. As I was ordering a drink, this guy came up to me and asked me to buy him one. "Um, no," I said. "I don't even know you." But as he kept talking to me, (causing me to miss the bartender twice) I realized that I had met him before.

Remember Scott's impromptu make-out session on New Year's Eve
? Yup. Same guy.

How bizarre. Oh, and he was quite an ass. (Good thing Scott didn't have time to get his number.) Apparently, I'm no longer "awesome."

After we left the club, Scott drove me home. On the way home, he said he didn't have a great time. I asked him why and he told me the reason he hates going to the club. All this time, he didn't like going for one simple reason and I never knew. He also mentioned that he liked Arlyn. He said that he talked to him while Jesse and I were dancing and really enjoyed his company and would consider going on a date with him.

"Yay!" I thought. If I had been paying more attention, I would have noticed the attraction.
One of my most favorite things to do is people-watch. I can sit somewhere for hours and watch someone or listen to a conversation. It's interesting what you can find out about a person just by paying a little extra attention to them.

The subtleties that we usually would miss can actually mean quite a lot.

UPDATE: There are a few other things about Friday that I have remembered.

1. I ran into my dental hygenist and told him that I would be seeing Dr. Graham next month and how he would be mad at me because I haven't had my wisdom teeth out. He chastised me, of course, and made me promise to get them out as soon as I could.

2. I saw my friends who own Rainbow Mountain Realty and asked them about buying a house. I have no idea what was said or how long I talked with them.

3. We watched the drag show. Jesse does not like Nova Star (the drag queen) and usually hates watching it. We were so intoxicated though that it really didn't matter. Plus, they were having a "fashion show" of hot boys in underwear so that probably helped. I remember talking to Tanner, Jesse's ex, but not what we talked about.

4. Scott, Jesse and I went to the bathroom together. They went in one stall and me another. When I was finished I went into their stall and tried to see Scott's manhood. He was trying to cover it up while he peed. It was too funny.

5. Jesse and I danced for a long time to so many good songs. We were even able to do the dance we made up to "Time After Time!" Also, one time when I left him to go to the restroom, I said, "Stay right here. Don't move okay?" And we kissed. Just a peck but still. Weird.
