Friends are like razors

In keeping with the hair removal theme...

I have some 'friends' who are like the disposable Bic razors. They are cheap, crappy plastic. I don't have a lot invested in these people and won't try to make much effort to fix things if they are jerks to me.

Some razors (friends) are not such high quality and will cut you if crossed. It stings and bleeds for a while. But eventually, the bleeding stops and you go on with your life. You never quite forget that cut and are very careful when shaving around that spot (you are very careful about what you say or do around that friend as you don't know what's going to happen).

Then, there are the razors that you love. They are of good quality (or of lovely report), never cut you, and always leave you looking better. You buy this type of razor over and over again because it is dependable and you know what you're getting when you do. Occasionally, you can find these razors in large metropolitan cities like New York or Boston.

I have people in my life in each of these categories and I'm always establishing and re-establishing old friendships. Some friends in my life come and go with the seasons. Some are permanent and that's really nice.

I reconnected with an old friend on Sunday. I realized how much I missed talking to him and how nice it was to (hopefully) re-establish our friendship. I realized that even though we had both hurt each other, there was too much invested in our friendship to completely let go. On the other hand, I am very ambivalent in fixing another friendship in which I was extremely hurt. I've been hurt multiple times by this person and am very cautious about trusting him again.

I'm very cautious about trying new friends (like the Veet) and when it comes to friendships. But when I find something I like, it's in my life for good.

I still want to be your friend. If we can work things out somewhere down the line, i'd be greatful.
